Increased interest in biometrics in the largest smart card event

Precise Biometrics participated at Cartes in November together with several partners. Cartes is the largest smart card event in the world and this year a whole conference track dealt with topics concerning biometrics and smart cards.

Precise Biometrics was represented in several partner stands at the Cartes exhibition in Paris. This was also the first year for Precise Biometrics as an exhibitor with an own exhibition area in the Gemalto partner stand. Gemalto is a world leader in digital security and involved in some of the largest global smart card projects.

“Biometrics in everyday life” was one of the topics being discussed during a whole day at the conference that was organized in conjunction with the Cartes exhibition. Precise Biometrics’ Jonas Andersson, VP Business Development had a speaker slot and talked about the necessity of Match-on-Card in national ID card programs.

“Our technology is strongly connected to the smart card industry. We have seen that Match-on-Card with fingerprint recognition is a common specification in many of the current national ID card tenders. The industry sees us as an established player contributing with biometric expertise thus inviting us to speak at events like this” Jonas Andersson says.

The interest for biometrics solutions combining fingerprint recognition with smart cards have increased over the years at Cartes. The span of question has also changed according to Karin Sveheim, Director of Markets at Precise Biometrics.

“We have visited Cartes for several years. A couple of years ago many questions concerning Match-on-Card and fingerprint recognition were asked in curiosity. Today the technology is accepted as a natural add-on to a smart card, the questions are concrete and the market is growing” says Karin Sveheim.

Cartes has attracted all the main players in the smart card industry as well as end customers, such as government representatives and corporate clients looking for smart card solutions, for more than 20 years. This year the event attracted 20 000 visitors and more than 500 exhibitors. Precise Biometrics expects that their participation in the event will lead to additional global projects and partnerships.
